At a glittering awards ceremony on 20th July 2023, the Chiltern Church Junior Football League was awarded the League of the Year trophy.
The Berks & Bucks FA and England Football “Grassroots Football Awards 2023” was held at Wycombe Wanderers’ Adams Park where more than 100 people gathered to find out the winners of 14 categories. The Chiltern Church Junior Football League was the WINNER of the League of the Year.
Steph Clark, Football Communications Officer with BBFA, said “By encouraging, first and foremost, a supportive environment throughout its Member Clubs, the Chiltern Church Junior Football League fosters the development of young people. The football environment teaches them the value of teamwork, the need to be reliable and dependable. Coaches are encouraged to support all players equally, rather than concentrate on their best eleven. Supporters are reminded to be respectful towards match officials and opposition personnel, recognising that they are all volunteers and doing the best that they can.”
Kevin Bennett, League Secretary said “This award is amazing. As a League we operate at the level of the grassroots of the grassroots. We try to capture those kids that can’t get into some of the other clubs. We’re about fairness, inclusivity, and equal playing time. We aim to give the kids an opportunity to play, get fit and, socially, a sense of belonging to a team and the responsibility that brings.”
With over 30 Leagues in the Berks and Bucks region, this award is a true recognition for all the hard work put in by the League Committee and the Member Clubs who all share in the league’s ethos.
