Match Reports for Division 1 & 2. The Beach silence the roar of the Leysdown Lions
It was GOALS! GOALS! GOALS! All the way on the opening day of the Dore Metal Sheppey Sunday League with nearly 90 goals scored the teams were obviously eager to get back into action.
In Division One Champions Park Regis (Kemsley) started their campaign with a 5-3 win over AFC Red Lion. The Champions had found the first half rough going with the Lion side scoring through Ben ONeill, Michael Cannon and George Blake to go into the break at 3-1. A spirited half time team talk by Manager Ashleigh Taylor saw his side overturn the deficit in fine style by winning the game 5-3 with goals from Lee Hudson, Dan Hudson, Ashleigh Taylor and a brace from Tommy Price. Last seasons runners up Holm Sports had a horrific start to the season going down 6-1 to a buoyant Red Lion (Sheppey) side. A hat trick from Aaron Kerry and goals from Russell Lamb, Brett Nevin and Carl Harrold gave the Red Lion side a terrific start, and Aaron Abbott scoring the consolation for Holm. The trouncing of the day went to the emerging Beach side who thumped Leysdown 9-0 to make claim to their rivals that they have arrived. Goals from Mark Martin, Danny Eason, Phil Jackson, Rob Reardon, a brace from Jay Law and a Dan Bryant hat trick gave The Beach the perfect start. The other game in the Division saw a tight encounter between Isle of Sheppey Academy and The Goat end in a 2-1 win for The Goat with goals from super sub Marcus Lind and Dan Solari with Nathan Spocchia netting for the Academy.
The Division Two season got under way with three very tight encounters. Aviator and Eastern Athletic starting their first ever season in the Senior section battled out a 2-2 draw with goals from Will Frost and Jason Soper for the Aviator with Danny Creed grabbing a brace to secure the point for Eastern. Range Rovers continued their good form from last season when they were known as B&W Athletic with a 2-1 victory over Gore Court Arms. Goals from Paul Constable and Nathan Brown won the points for Rovers with Mark Baldock netting for the Arms side. The final game in the Division saw Park Regis Reserves edge out Sporting Sittingbourne 3-2.
