The following guidance has been handed out by Swindon and District Football League to help standardise the marking of Referees for the coming season.
General Notes & Comments
Club officials should use the full range of marks within each category to help distinguish between different performance levels, for example, within the 85-76 category a mark of 84 indicates a better performance than a mark of 77.
While some Referees may have below average performances, there will usually have been some positive aspects of their performance, so extremely low marks should be very rare.
When club officials are marking a Referee, they should always look at the game as a whole and not isolated decisions. The result of the match should not influence the mark and disciplinary action should be judged objectively.
When a mark of 60 or lower is awarded, an explanation must be provided in writing to the appropriate league officer (Rule 23 L).
The purpose of this is to provide feedback to the Referee(s) to aid improvement in performance levels, so the comments should be as helpful & constructive as possible.
The SDFL operates a Referee Buddy & Mentor Programme and the marks and feedback provided will be fed into this programme for both specific and general referee performance support.
It is also worth noting that all match officials are sanctioned by the County FA and as such, any/all discipline matters, outside of the markings specified above, will be handled by them in the first instance.
Home teams, please contact your appointed ref no later than 8pm on the Thursday before your game.
