No disgrace in losing in the cup for Robertsons against a premier league team
This was good experience for a very young Robertson Scaffolding team with an average age of only 19, against a Premier team outfit at an excellent venue a really good pitch and excellent changing room facilities.
Some key players were unavailable for this fixture Christie Elliott, Chrissie Sinclair, Wayne Henry, Jonny Matthews and Aaron Todd; if all or even some of these players had been available the result may well have been a more favourable one.
All the players available from the previous weeks 4-0 win against Simonside SC with the exception of Paul Woods were rewarded with a start. Ryan Docherty returned to play in goal allowing Micky Urwin to play at left back, with Wayne Henry away on holiday Darryl Donnelly returned from injury so the back four lined up as Dan Purvis, David Mullen, Darryll Donnelly and Micky Urwin. Losh Lowther was rewarded with a start on the right after his goal scoring performance the previous week and the ever versatile Dan Smith lined up in centre midfield with Ian Hudson and Bri Johnson started on the left but he later moved to a more forward position. Stevie Stephenson after his brace of goals as sub last week played upfront alongside Dave Smith who added a bit of experience to a very young starting line up. Callum Wade and Declan Tilson returned for a place on the bench along with Paul Woods.
Robertsons contained Whiteleas for over an hour with Ryan Docherty in particularly good form making at least three excellent saves. Robertsons while it was still 0-0 looked dangerous on the counter attack.
Whiteleas scored two goals in two minutes which effectively gave Robertsons a mountain to climb but at 2-0 Robertsons were probably at their most dangerous and had three or four really good efforts to get back into the game. With only 5 minutes to go Whiteleas sealed the victory with a third.
Robertsons can take plenty of credit from this game the Whiteleas Manager and the match referee both complemented Robertsons on their performance stating that the
3-0 score line flattered Whiteleas and was not a fair reflection of the game.
