Ashville and Ellesmere Port made it 3 Division 1 victories from as many outings on Friday night to set the pace at the top. A double from Jamie Conroy helped Ashville to a 2-1 success at Marshalls who had Joe Connelly on target. Forty eight hours earlier Chris Barrow and Dave Rudge had been the men on the mark for last seasons Division 2 champions as they overcame Mossley Hill Athletic [Yusuf Malik] by the same scoreline. For their part Ellesmere Port [Mike Jones, Mark Price, Peter McNulty] followed up a 3-1 win over Southport Trinity [Eric Woodward] by putting paid to Chester Nomads as Ritchie Feightman netted the only goal of a close encounter. On Saturday Andy Edgar, Iain Johnson and Danny Dillon registered for Maghull as they earned maximum reward from their 2 outings with a 3-1 defeat of Willaston who had Josh Williams replying. Newton dropped their 1st points of the campaign when having to settle for a 1-1 draw with Cammell Laird Reserves [Shaun Holmes]. Bradley Hough was the Newton marksman while in midweek Jamie Hannah, Antony Carroll, Dave Lynch and Dave Thompson had registered as the Greasby outfit recorded an emphatic 4-0 success at the expense of Marshalls. Having been the victims when Andy Barker registered the games only goal for West Kirby on Tuesday, matters worsened for Heswall at the weekend when they slumped to a 4-0 defeat at Marine Reserves as Jimmy Watkinson, Paul Pearson, Dwayne Arty and James Taylor netted for the hosts. Vauxhall Motors Reserves [Antony Ashton, Mark Winslade, Craig Cairns] recovered from Wednesdays odd goal in 7 defeat inflicted by Cammell Laird Reserves [John Johnson, Jon Atkinson, James Kenyon, Own Goal] by seeing off Upton AAs challenge on Saturday. Danny Wainwright, Mark Winslade and Josh Walsh obliged for the 3-1 victors as John Farrell responded. Blacon YC [Matt Pierce, Mike Mackin, Lee McEmeel] quickly secured their 1st win in midweeks local encounter at Chester Nomads [Mike Gerrard, 2,] and followed up with a point when Damien Rowley cancelled out a Danny Fernyough strike for visiting Mossley Hill Athletic. Champion side West Kirby [Lee Healey] suffered their 2nd loss of the season when goals from Eric Woodward and Ian Morrison saw Southport Trinity run out 2-1 winners.
Beb Athletic and Hale lead the way in Division 2 as they boast 100% records from their 3 outings. Tom Byrne and Graham Carvell inspired Athletics 2-1` victory at West Kirby Reserves on Monday while on the same evening Sean Wright hit all 4 for Hale as they triumphed 4-2 at Marshalls Reserves. On Saturday it was the turn of Athletic to defeat Marshalls when Graham Carvell, Sean Haggerty and Mike Salisbury where on target in a 3-1 success while Sean Culland and Paul Hart each bagged a brace as Hale saw off Heswall Reserves [Jay Shaw, Gordon Harrison] 4-2. Lewis Buckley was another Monday night 4 goal man as his Runcorn Linnets Reserves outfit accounted for Richmond Raith Rovers, 5-0, but Linnetts [Jamie Cawley, Ryan Dutton] were to drop their 1st points at the weekend when fellow promoted outfit Manor Athletic [Phil Adams, Sean Murphy] shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw. Its 2 wins out of 2 for Ashville Reserves as Carl Murphy led the way with a double in a 5-2 win at the expense of pointless West Kirby Reserves [Rikki Neill].
The Division 3 table is headed by Helsby who easily eclipsed host side Upton AA Reserves with 2 goals Gary Lunt leading the way in a 6-0 romp while joining them on 9 points are new boys Belfry who had Liam Langley, 2, Dave Gordema, 2 and Ryan Fossard posting in an 8 goal thriller at Hale Reserves. Mersey Royal failed to win for the 1st time when fighting out a goal less draw with Mossley Hill Reserves while similarly South Liverpool [Curtis Cummins,2, Chris Roscoe] also had to settle for a point after sharing 6 goals with New Brighton Reserves [Jonathon Pringle pen, Luke Jones, Anthony Cotgrave].
