Dayers' dish out hot starters - guests serve 4-star afters
It was bottom versus top in Division 1, with the basement battlers Dayers Fine Foods taking a 2-0 lead over leaders Republic of Chineham on Sunday. Tim Wright and Alex Brown scored the goals that raised Dayers early hopes of a memorable result. However, the leaders stormed back from behind, scoring four goals to win the match 2-4 and extended their lead to nine points at the head of the division. Steve Aldridge pulled one back to start the recovery and Rob Palmer levelled the game, Aldridge scored his second to put Republic ahead, before Lewis Harris made the game safe. Not only was this a fine league double, it was Republic of Chinehams fifth win in a row.
Soldiers Return had a dream start against South View, in their chase to catch the leaders, taking a 2-0 lead by half-time. Alex Izzos first shot was saved by the keeper but he fumbled his handling for Izzo to follow up and tap in. Then Spencer Champ doubled the lead following a long throw. After the break Izzo completed his brace with a shot from the edge of the box. Jaimie Galpin scored late in the game after taking the ball round the keeper to net the fourth goal without reply. This was their fourth win in a row and the league double over sorry South View.
Tron drew 3-3 with Oakley, with goals from Gianni Thomas, a Jess Todd header and an own goal.
