Southport Trinity’s move to a new ground complete with a G3 pitch was much to the liking of visiting league leaders Ashville at the weekend. On the 1st ever West Cheshire game played on an artificial surface, the Wallasey outfit ran out comprehensive 6-0 winners following a fine display of smooth flowing football. In a very open contest, Trinity had two chances to score before Dave Rudge gave Ashville a 4th minute lead and 10 minutes before the break he laid on a 2nd for Chris Barrow. A superb Aiden Dickenson save denied Trinity a chance to register from the penalty spot and by the hour mark, man of the match Rudge had completed his hat trick and shortly afterwards he laid on another goal for Barrow. Substitute Paul Howell rounded off Ashville’s victory in the closing stages. Despite strikes from Lee Tynan and Sam Wilkie, Maghull fell further behind in the title race as Sean Johnston and Ronnie Morgan leveled matters to earn a point for visiting Christleton. Improving Vauxhall Motors Reserves followed up last week’s defeat of Ashville by overcoming Newton 5-2. Craig Cairns, 2, Christian Benesko, Josh Walsh and Sam Keevey were on the mark for Motors with Newton’s replies arriving courtesy of Dave Thompson and Paul Rudkin. Mossley Hill Athletic took advantage of Newton’s blank day to move into 3rd spot when an own goal by Chester Nomads was enough to earn them maximum reward at Boughton Hall. With only 4 points separating the 7 sides at the bottom of the table, there is an intensive battle to stay clear of the relegation places and Upton AA did their cause no harm as a Simon Andrews double secured a 2-0 triumph over inconsistent Heswall. A late Jamie Gardner equalizer earned Willaston a point after West Kirby, who finished the game with 10 men, had gone ahead through Tom Hartley and Ellesmere Port [Ryan Nicoll, Mark Jones, Richard Freightman and Mike Campbell] edged a 7 goal thriller at Cammell Laird Reserves [James Atherton, 2, Jamie Kenyon].
Second Division action saw leaders Beb Athletic ease to an impressive 5-1 victory over Prescot Cable Reserves in which young striker Sean Haggerty starred with a hat trick and Mallaby [Andy Edge, 2, Darren Thomas] moved out of the bottom 2 for the 1st time this season after their odd goal in five success at Heswall Reserves [Robert Oates, Danny Edwards]. Manor Athletic [Andy Kingham,2, Graham Williams] staged a terrific fight back to come from 2 goals down to overhaul West Kirby Reserves [Dave Bowe, Stuart Jackson], 3-2 and it finished all square when Dean Connolly and Kyle Harrison netted for hosts New Brighton and Mike Urmston and Rob McDowell did likewise for opponents Capenhurst Villa.
Right back Colin Deakin set Division 3 table toppers South Liverpool on the way to a 4-1 success over Neston Nomads by posting their first two goals which were supplemented by Neil Fisher and a 30 yard screamer from substitute Alex Woodcock while Alex Clare hit Nomads consolation. Despite taking a 2-1 lead, Mersey Royal [Alan Cross, Matty Langford] slumped to a 4-2 home defeat at the hands of Chester Nomads Reserves who had Peter Fitzpatrick, Mark Stockton, Josh Fennell and Joe Imlach registering. A Liam Jameson double spearheaded New Brighton Reserves [Anthony Clarkson, Paddy O’Sullivan] as they outgunned hosts Christleton Reserves 4-1 and Cole Masters plundered the game’s only goal for Manor Athletic Reserves on their visit to Mossley Hill Reserves. Belfry were obliged to Danny Hart, Liam Blackwood and Sean Seddon as they garnered a 3-2 win over Upton AA Reserves who had Ryan Farrell and Jordan Jones replying.
Overnight frost put paid to all but one fixture in the Youth Division where leaders South Liverpool were made to fight all the way by Runcorn Linnets before securing a 3-2 verdict. Jake Cotsopolus, Mike Tomlinson and Callum Brown did the damage for South as Josh Archer bagged a brace for Linnets.
