Everards Teams in the County Cup for Week Ending 9th November by Mason Norton
Before we get started this week, a couple of entries for Corrections Corner on Ramble Round from last week's report. Firstly, it was stated that the Senior Cup was sponsored by Jelson Homes- in actual fact, from this season on, the competition will be sponsored by VEO, who provide video highlights of all county finals played at Holmes Park. Secondly, it was stated that all of the matches in the Senior Cup this week pitted LSL sides against Step 6 opposition- in fact, there was one all-LSL tie, between Aylestone Park Reserves and Sileby Town. We'll start therefore with that game, which saw Sileby come out as 5-2 winners at the Linwood on Tuesday night, Tom Pope leading the way with a brace, Adam Bowley, Shaun Smith and Grant Ryder also scoring, Aylestone scorers not yet in.
Also joining them in the hat for the quarter-finals with the shock of the round were Leicester Atletico, who won 2-0 away at Step 6 team Saffron Dynamo on Wednesday night. Ilyaas Hussein scored for Atletico in the first half, and Saffron's night didn't improve when they were reduced to 10 men. Nonetheless, the hosts continued to search for the equaliser, thereby leaving themselves open at the back, which Atletico exploited in the last minute of regulation time when they went down the other end and sub Mamadu Djalo scored.
LSL high-fliers Anstey Town went to Coalville Town in search of an upset on Tuesday night and gave a better account of themselves than the scoreline suggests. Coalville took the lead through Tom Mangan, with the score just 1-0 at the break in front of a crowd of 237. Two goals in three minutes from Mangan again and Ronnie Morley made it 3-0, which seemed to end the tie as a contest, only for Josh Burniston to score for Anstey to give them a chance of a comeback, and the scoreline remained respectable until the final quarter of an hour, when the visitors ran out of steam and Coalville punished them, with sub Fin Thomas scoring a brace, and Morley adding his second as well to make it 6-1 to Coalville.
Saturday afternoon saw a local derby, as Step 6 Ingles welcomed LSL Premier side Hathern to Thringstone to renew hostilities. A match that wasn't one for the neutral that involved lots of long ball was settled by one goal, as Kyle Fowkes rose highest just before the hour mark to head home, Ingles winning 1-0. That concludes the second round of the Senior Cup, and three LSL sides progress to the quarter-finals, Sileby, Atletico, and FC Khalsa. The remainder of the sides include four teams from Step 6- Ingles, Coalville, Birstall United, who defeated last season's winners Kirby Muxloe 4-1 on Tuesday night with an impressive display at Kirby, and Heather St John, who beat Allexton & New Parks 4-0 in midweek, with the line-up being rounded off by Nottinghamshire Senior League leaders FCV Grace Dieu, who notched up a noteworthy 3-0 win at Step 6 side Lutterworth Athletic in midweek.
There's one other County Cup result to bring you. Last week's Westerby Saturday Trophy tie between Wymeswold and Hinckley Borough was postponed last week- it was rescheduled for this Saturday and reversed to Boro, who won 5-2 thanks to goals from Acer Szilak (2), Kai Abrahams, Harry Jarvis and Jake Tomlinson, the LSL side in the hat for the last 16. Ramble Round the County Cups returns in December, with the quarter-finals of the VEO Senior Cup and the last 16 of both the Saturday Intermediate Cup and Saturday Trophy.
