Blackbird Rovers booked their place in the Oxfordshire FA John Fathers Junior Shield, with a 7-3 win away to Summertown Stars AFC at Cutteslowe Park.
Rovers were slow to get going after a 5 week lay off, but, were first to get off the mark. Not to be outdone Stars soon equalised and after 20 mins went 2-1 up, Rovers hit back with an equaliser but were then reduced to 10 men as Jerome McCalmon was sent off, just before half time.
Stars now a player up, pushed hard to try and gain from the advantage, but, this left gaps which Rovers David Jennings exploited with some deft touches to open up the Stars defence. Rovers then took control and eased into a 6-2 lead, then Bradley White of Summertown Stars lost his cool in the penalty area and was sent off for violent conduct. Stars added a consolation goal in the last minute, but, it is Rovers who progress and set up a Quarter Final place against Ducklington from the Witney & District League on the 7th February.
The week before Black Swan hosted Heyford Athletic at Margaret Road in difficult conditions, after a fight back the Swan just missed out on a quarter final place by losing 4-3.
