The opening weekend of the Westward Developments Devon Women's Football League saw plenty of goals in the late summer sunshine.
Buckland Athletic Reserves welcomed Activate from Plymouth, who have just returned to the league, following a couple of seasons in the S.W. Regional League. The home side ran out winners by five goals to nil, with Katie Sawyer, Mel Woodmore, Marika Chiglia, Jenny Hammond and Zoe Carpenter getting on the score sheet.
Shaldon Villa made the long trip to play Ilfracombe Town worthwhile and opened their account with a 4 - 3 win. The visitors opened the scoring through new signing, Lucy Rosser and followed up with a hat trick from Cassie Trow. Towm were always playing 'catch up' and nearly snatched a draw with two goals from Macole Beckham and one from Rudy Bucknell.
The game between Halwill Fc and Lakeside Athletic had to be abandoned late in the game, following an injury to a Lakeside player. With Halwill leading by four goals to nil at the time, the Committee will have to make a decision on the 'result'.
In Division One, Budleigh Salterton won their east Devon by defeating visiting, Axminster Town three nil. Amy Salter scored twice and Sam Burke celebrated her summer wedding by scoring the other goal.
League newcomers, Signal Box O.V. from Plymouth made the journey up the A38 to play the other debutants, Cullompton Rangers and returned home with all three points courtesy of an 8 - 1 victory.
Victoria Jasper led the way with a personal haul of five goals, along with with one each for Abigail Smith, Lucy Chilcott and an own goal. Cully's consolation goal was scored by Erin Manly.
