CARLSBERG WEST CHESHIRE A.F.L.
MATCH ROUND UP W/E/ 13.8.2011
The annual curtain raiser to the Carlsberg West Cheshire season saw the Bill Weight semi finals go the way of West Kirby, 5-0 winners over Runcorn Linnets Reserves and Ashville, who overcame Maghull by the odd goal in 5. The two sides will now meet in the final of the Leagues charity competition next month but ironically faced each other at the weekend in the days top Division 1 encounter. Newly promoted Ashville showed they mean business on their return to the top flight by defeating League champions West Kirby 3-0 on their own ground. Dave Rudge eased the visitors in front just before the break and a Tim Bigland penalty and a Lee Hammond strike completed an impressive victory. Dave Swaine netted the games only goal as Heswall defeated Upton AA at Gayton Park while a Lee Tynan double featured as Maghull began their quest to improve on last seasons runners up spot by disposing of Vauxhall Motors Reserves 4-2. Anthony Carroll was another 2 goal man as Newton saw off Marine Reserves challenge courtesy of a 3-0 success. A Jamie Kenyon goal was Cammell Laird Reserves only reward from their visit to Southport Trinity who had Colin McDonald, 2, and Ben Johnson registering in their 3-1 victory while on Friday evening two headed goals by Nathan Ecclestone brought maximum points for Ellesmere Port as they saw off Blacon YC [Lee McElmeel] 2-1. Christleton recorded a similar sized victory as Steve Finlay netted both their goals against visiting Willaston who had Josh Williams on target while Chester Nomads [Mike Garrod] grabbed a point from their 1st ever Division 1 outing at Marshalls who had Lee Welsh as their marksman.
The Division 2 programme got under way on Friday when a feisty encounter in which both sides ended with 10 men saw Runcorn Linnets Reserves [Lewis Buckley ,2, Ryan Dutton, Liam Page] edge out hosts West Kirby Reserves [Danny Mooney, Lee Davies, Lewis Morgan] by the odd goal in 7. Regular marksman Graham Carvell wasted no time in getting on the scoresheet for Beb Athletic with his 1st day hat trick spearheading his sides 4-2 victory over Richmond Raith Rovers while Ashville Reserves [Robbie Black, 2, Peter Wright] won the battle of the newly promoted sides thanks to a 3-0 success over Manor Athletic. Two long range free kicks by Sam Herbert couldnt prevent Bronze Social going down 3-2 at home to Hale who posted through James Ormisher, Vassili Poza and Bob Pennington while Maghull Reserves [Brad Smart,2, Barqua Parvis,2,] also enjoyed away day success thanks to a 4-2 win at Capenhurst Villa [Steve Morgan ,2,] Marshalls Reserves got off to a winning start as Kenny Gambo and Ollie Roberts netted in the 2-1 victory over Mallaby who had Peter Rutter replying while Lee Owens and an own goal put Prescott Cable Reserves 2 up against New Brighton who fought back but only had a Steve Lunt to account for their efforts.
Two of last seasons Youth Division sides have entered Division 3 and they met at Belfry where Neston Nomads were the visitors and it was the hosts who were to emerge victorious as Danny Hart, 2, Liam Langley and Dave Goredma found the net in a 4-2 success that saw Kevin Jackson and Pete Ward replying for Nomads. South Liverpool got off to a winning start following their switch to West Cheshire football when Kevin Martin and Elliott Burnett struck in a their 2-1 defeat of Capenhurst Villa Reserves [Mark Ryan] while Manor Athletic Reserves [Gary Fletcher, John Weatherall] gained a point on their return to the League thanks to a 2-2 draw against Mossley Hill Athletic Reserves [Paul Wells, Own Goal]. It was a losing start though for Chester Nomads Reserves as they went down 2-0 at the hands of Mersey Royal who had Kevin Martin and Ali Major on target.
