The A division cup final took place between Vets Reunited and Hebburn Iona at Harton Welfare on Sunday morning and in atrocious conditions both teams produced a very tight competitive game. In an even first half both sides created chances but generally the defences were on top, probably the best chance fell to Iona but Simon Parkin in the Vets goal pulled off a brilliant double save to thwart first Sean Docherty and then Carl Coyne. With half time approaching it looked like the stalemate would prevail but Steve Van Es chased what looked to be a lost cause and managed to force a corner, from the resultant corner centre half Tony Fyall rose majestically to plant an unstoppable header into the top corner of the net to send the Vets into the break one up. The second half saw Iona push forward for the equalizer and whilst they had the greater possession and were territorially superior they did not really manage to create a clear-cut chance. The introduction of Gary Baxter up front for Iona threatened to help their cause but Tony Fyall at the back for Vets marshaled his defence superbly to curb the threat. Vets always looked dangerous on the break and so it proved in the final minutes as Iona pushed up searching desperately for an equalizer Vets broke and Steve Van Es got away on the left, it looked as if the Iona defence had forced him too far left of the goal but he produced a fine shot to win the cup for Vets. For his sterling efforts in defence and his fine goal; the Sunday League committee selected Tony Fyall as the Man of the Match. .

In the Premier division Whiteleas had a very comfortable win over Lees Cleaning, as always Lees never gave up but Whiteleas were just too strong for them running in nine goals without reply. The victory now means that the league title is in their own hands, however Whiteleas have some difficult games to come so expect some twists and turns before the title is decided.

Nook Utd met Marsden CW in what turned out to be a very entertaining game. Both sides had chances to score but it was Nook who took theirs as Mark Hodgson scored twice before setting up strike partner Mick Armstrong to complete a 3-0 victory.

Primrose came out on top against Pac Builders with a 1-0 victory. Primrose had the better of the first half and could have had four or five goals but managed to squander them all. The deciding goal finally arrived 10 minutes into the second half with Mick McDonald firing home. After this reverse Pac did get back into the game to create some late chances but Primrose held on for the victory.

In the A division the shock of the day came when run away leaders Ship went down 3-0 to Prince of Wales Perth Green. Two goals for Si Jacobs and a third for Liam Clark sealed a deserved victory for Perth Green.

Ellison FC moved to second spot in Division A with a 1-0 win over Grey Hen Rangers, in a scrappy game the only goal came on 61 minutes through Gordon Williams.

Substitute Adam Moore, who has missed the last 10 games through injury, scored both goals for Boldon FC as they overcame Prince Edward Pirates 2-1. The first half ended goal-less with neither side creating any clear-cut chances. In the second half Boldon were awarded a penalty after Shaun Carroll was brought down, unfortunately for the second week running Carroll failed to score from the spot. Enter sub Moore who after good work from Carroll slotted home from close range to put Boldon ahead. But within a minute Pirates were level as Dave Crumbie arrived unmarked at the back post to head home a Chris Aires cross. It looked like ending all square but with 5 minutes remaining Adam Moore was on hand again to score from close range after Pirates failed to clear their lines and secure the points for Boldon.

In the B division The Bridge turned up the pressure in the race for promotion with a comfortable 7-1 against Strollers in snowy conditions.
Despite making 3 changes to the line up from last weekends Cup Final Win and The Bridge hardly got out of first gear all game. A well taken goal form Carl Drew early on opening the scoring. Strollers did however make it 1-1 after poor defending from the Bridge. Robert Robinson made it 2-1 going into the interval with a simple tap in after good work from star man Ian Sanderson. Philip Ormonde then made it 3-1 slotting in from close range. Robert Robinson then caught the keeper off guard with a clearance from the half way line which looped over the keepers head. An own goal made it all but certain win at 5-1 before goals from Goldsmith and Cook wrapped it up 7-1.
