In a high scoring Division 2 encounter Mallaby collected their 1st points of the season with an amazing 6-4 triumph over title hopefuls Runcorn Linnets Reserves. Dave Skillen and Peter Rutter hit 3 goals each in a morale boosting success for Mallaby as Ryan Dutton, 2, Chris Buckley and Tom Riley responded for Linnets. In another thriller, promotion contenders Hale and Beb Athletic shared 6 goals with Paul Hart, Sean Wright and Chris Smith on target for Hale while Dayne Murphy, 2, and Wayne Hulse posted for the visitors. Ashville Reserves still hold top spot after Paul Howell and Neil Wilson netted against a Bronze Social outfit unable to reply. Elsewhere in the division Chris Robertson, Tom Mole and Phil Evans obliged for Manor Athletic as they overcame Prescott Cable Reserves 3-0, while Marshalls Reserves [David Powell,2, Steve Kinnear] emerged victorious by the odd goal in 5 as they played host to West Kirby Reserves [Steve McCann, Ian Hobday].
A 7th minute strike by Mark Knox in his 1st start for Willaston set them on the way to a welcome 3-1 victory over visiting Blacon YC. The lead was doubled before the break when Blacon defender Chris Scanlon diverted a right wing cross into his own net. Early in the 2nd period Lee McElmeel reduced the arrears and Aiden Shannon twice went close to leveling only for substitute Dayo Akinlabi to make the game safe for the Division 1 basement boys who ended the contest with 10 men. Leaders Ashville maintained their 100% away record as Steve Connor, Chris Barrow, Jay Clare, Dave Rudge and an own goal counted in a 5-1 triumph at Upton AA who replied through Andy Lloyd. Mossley Hill Athletic finished all square with visitors Marshalls who had Richard Jones and Ollie Roberts cancelling out a Karl Garnell double and Chester Nomads returned from Marine Reserves with a 3-0 win under their belts.
Struggling Hale Reserves were shown no mercy by Beb Athletics Reserves who ran out 13-0 winners with James Douglas, Sean Haggerty and Danny Nevin all hitting hat tricks. Dale Harris was also a 3 goal man as Chester Nomads Reserves defeated Upton AA Reserves 4-1 and leaders Helsby [James McCartney, Wes Huitzer, Paul Gumbs and Gary Lunt] returned to winning ways as they overcame Christleton Reserves 4-0. Mersey Royal [Nathan Jones] were stunned by Merseyside Police [John Christiansen, own goal] who dented Royals promotion hopes with a 2-1 away success but Kevin Martin, Chris Pievey and Curtis Cummins were on target as South Liverpool stayed well in the hunt with a 3-0 victory at Belfry. Neston Nomads [Dave Poynton, Mark Bentley, Rob Cottrell] chalked up back to back wins as they defeated Capenhurst Villa Reserves [Damien McGinnigle, 2,] 3-2.
In the Youth Division a Scott Griffiths brace spearheaded a 4-1 victory for Finn Harps over table trailers REMYCA while Stuart McDonald hit a sparkling hat trick in Pex Hills 4-2 defeat of Runcorn Linnets. A Ronnie McCarthy double added to a Jamie Downing strike helped Allerton to a 3-1 success at Runcorn Town [Antonio Galbraith] while Widnes Town and South Liverpool fought out a 0-0 draw.
In the 1st round of the Wirral Senior Cup Ian Brunt and John Johnson posted for Cammell Laird Reserves as they edged out 2nd Division Capenhurst Villa [Mark Ryan] 2-1 and a Lee Tynan spot kick was enough to end opponents Newtons interest in the competition. Heswall [Richie Foulkes] needed penalties to dispose of Ellesmere Port [Robbie Feightman] following their 1-1 draw while a 7-6 penalty success saw 2nd Division New Brighton earn their passage to round 2 at the expense of West Kirby after the sides had blanked each other out in normal and extra time. A Mike Jeffs double led the way as Christleton defeated Hoole Rangers 3-1 in the 1st round of the Chester FA Senior Cup.
