The club was formed in 2003 from a primary school team led by teacher Gavin Rigg. The school team then progressed to becoming a team for the town opening up opportunities for girls from other local schools. Supported by a keen parent, Dave Turner the girls team were invited to link up with the rapidly growing boys club Dalton Juniors FC.

In July 2006 the club Dalton Girls and Ladies FC was formed.

The club now has 7 teams, from Under 9's all the way up to the open age team Dalton Utd Ladies (which contains many of the original girls). The teams play in various leagues; the juniors play in the Barrow & District League and the South Lakes Girls League while the Ladies play in the Cumbria Women's League.

The club is run entirely on a voluntary basis, the coaches have attended FA courses and all funds raised are used to develop opportunities for the young players in the area. The club aims and continues to provide a positive and healthy outlet for the energies of children and young people in the area.

With the support of the community, players and their families, Dalton Girls and Ladies FC should continue to develop benefiting the whole town.

Dalton Girls and Ladies FC future mission is simple, to carry on enabling all girls and young ladies in and around Dalton to play football and to develop into well respected young adults regardless of their race or background.

The majority of the ladies players come from the Dalton, Askam, Barrow and Ulverston, some even travel through from Millom and Grange!
