Penrith AFC completed the league double in season 2013/14
Penrith AFC completed the league double in season 2013/14 winning The Cumbria Womens Under 16 League title along with the League Cup going through the season with a 100% record.
The Blues won every game in the league and cup, recently winning Cumberland FAs County Cup to clinch the domestic treble. An unprecedented year, making history as the first team to go through a season in Cumbria Womens League with a 100% record.
The title was not confirmed until Penrith AFC travelled away to 2nd placed Abbeytown JFC who only lost to the eventual Champions throughout the season. Crown Newlaithes finished third in the league and were runners up in both the League Cup and County Cup to Penrith AFC. Extra time was needed in both Cups, with Penrith scoring the decisive goals in the additional periods to claim both trophies.
The Cumbria wide league, this season with 8 teams saw plenty of competitive football with newcomers Northbank JFC having a good first season, finishing just behind 2012/13 Champions Carlisle City JFC. Kendal based Ibis JFC finished the season in 4th. West based Windscale FC along with Barrow Celtic JFC ensured the league was represented across the county.
All teams in the league have been a credit to their clubs. The traveling and commitment involved in playing across the county at this age group cannot be underestimated and for the teams to complete all their fixtures is no easy task. Cumbria Womens League would like to thank the players, managers and parents for the support in getting the 2013/14 season completed.
Preparation is already being made for next season, with team entries open.
