League Two title race heats up!
Premier Division
The top three didn’t play any league games this weekend so it was a chance for the clubs lying in mid table to showcase their footballing action this week. Altrincham Reserves kept a clean sheet in their 0-2 victory over Malpas. This result moves the National League North’s reserve side up to fifth in the table; however the Manchester side have played more games than any other side in the league.
Congleton Vale have moved up to fourth place following their win away at Rylands. Vale took all three points with a 1-3 victory over their Warrington-based opponents, leaving Rylands in 11th in the table.
Crewe and Eagle Sports both also recorded 1-3 victories (over Rudheath Social and Greenalls PSO respectably). Eagle Sports’ win, which came courtesy of two McAllistair goals and one from Alex Brisco, was their first in the league all season and, although remaining bottom, they now have points to their name.
League One
Cheadle Town’s Reserves failed to win this weekend, unlike their NWCFL-based first team. They lost 2-3 to another reserve side, Northern Premier League team, Warrington Town. Warrington’s goals came via Edge, Smart and Bowers and saw the Yellows pick up all three points at Park Road and stay comfortably top of the table.
Middlewich Town really took the game to West Didsbury & Chorlton Reserves in their 5-0 victory. An impressive Sam Wakefield hat-trick, coupled with goals from Oliver Tobin and Lewis Morana, saw the Witches move up two places in the league standings to tenth.
The final game in League One this week was Lostock Gralam’s 0-1 victory over Pilkington. This win keeps Lostock within reach of leaders, Warrington Town Reserves.
League Two
Cuddington and Sandbach Reserves came out even in an entertaining 8 goal thriller that saw United come back from being two goals down at half-time. A Man of the Match performance from Nathan Harwood wasn’t enough for Cuddington to maintain their lead.
Orford beat Unicorn Athletic 3-1 to move up to fourth and within one point of their opponents, keeping the race for the lead all the more enthralling, which will make next week’s fixtures all the more interesting.
