Next round beckons for New Inn

New Inn progressed comfortably into the second round of the Hampshire Sunday Junior A Cup on Sunday, writes Tony Spencer. They entertained visitors Edstreme Athletic and eased them out of the running with a 2-0 victory. New Inn are now unbeaten in three games.

North Warnborough Two faced a tough opponent in the shape of Bridgemary Eagles, who arrived primed and ready to take the game by the scruff of its neck. The visitors had racked up a comfortable five goal lead by the interval. Bewildered North Warnborough changed things around during the break and put up a much better defence in the second half, conceding only one more goal but, despite a valiant effort, only managed to pull a goal back, finishing 1-6.

UWS entertained FC Boca, but the visitors proved too strong, leaving with the victory under their belts by 1-3.

Basing United travelled to Andover Saints but found their opponents unbeatable on their home turf, and were knocked out of the cup by 5-2.

Eastrop Eagles' unbeaten run finally came to an end, dumped out of the cup while guests of Bluebirds, losing 4-1.

Hampshire Irons scratched from their scheduled tie at Ensbury Park Rangers.

Basingstoke's sole entrants in the Hampshire Sunday Intermediate Cup were Oakley, who travelled to face West Farnborough, where they were eliminated from the competition by an emphatic 7-0 scoreline.

Lamb Inn's unbeaten Division 1 run continued without a hitch, in a comfortable 7-0 victory over Kaiser Wessex. Ashley Elwood racked up a fine hat-trick, Carlos Gonzalez netted a back post header, with further strikes buried by Lee Neal and Danny Dedman, with Terry Carr rounding off with the seventh at the end. The result made an unlucky scoreline for Kaiser Wessex, who have lost all their away games so far this campaign.

In a competitive first half, with no quarter given, home side Soldiers Return conceded a penalty to go into the dressing room at half time a single goal in arrears, down to Alex Pickering's spot kick for Republic of Chineham. The home side suffered a further setback early in the second half, when the team was reduced to ten men following a second yellow card. Soldiers remained competitive but a breakaway goal ten minutes from the end by Lewis Harris, ensured Soldiers' first defeat of the season, 0-2. Republic of Chineham are now unbeaten in three games.

The South View team, apparently, were up all night celebrating a birthday party, and were half asleep in the first half. By the break their goal difference was suffering from a sizeable deficit, with Basingstoke Saints five goals up without reply. South View played a lot better in the second half, restricting the visitors to a single additional goal. Their keeper Sean O'Brien ventured upfield for a corner right at the death and scored with a volley, the final score 1-6. Basingstoke Saints put in a great team performance, really played well, having promised a similar positive result for the last few games. In Saints' first win of the season, Liam James scored a hat-trick, while Adam Butler scored a brace from free kicks, one either side of Jamie O'Toole's single goal.

Charlie Palmer opened the scoring for home side Tron against Dayers Fine Foods. The visitors soon struck back with a brace from Dave Lee to snatch a narrow lead, but Dave Parry equalised for Tron before the break. Gareth Richards restored Dayers' slim advantage at 2-3 early in the second half, but two late strikes for the hosts by Palmer completed his hat-trick and won the game 4-3. Tron extend their unbeaten run to three games.

Only two matches were played in Division 3. AFC Golden Lion suffered another large defeat, 0-7 to Chineham Athletic. Ollie Owen led the scorers with a hat-trick, with braces added by Ben Owen and Tom Langley.

Chineham Reserves beat DG Athletic with strikes by Kyle Buckland, Jimmy Buckland and Mark Johnson, without reply.​
