Hampshire Junior A Cup

The only Hampshire Junior A Cup match played was at Hook where top of the table Silchester Village were visitors., the other Division One clubs in the area having byes into the second round the result was a 3-1 win for Hook and the first defeat for Silchester. Tedroy Ricketts put Hook in front after nine minutes after some good build up play from Ashley Woods and Sam Wells. Gary Hibbs had a good chance for the visitors and Luke Alliston shot wide for them before Tom Lucas increased the Hook lead in the 30th minute, Lucas scoring after a link up with Dan Mellors. Peter White did pull a goal back before the break in a counterattack, but the tie was sewn up for Hook when late in the game Dan Mellors played through for Dan Allison to finish well for the third.

Hampshire Junior B Cup.

All three of the Hampshire Junior B Cup matches ended in draws; therefore, they were resolved with penalty shootouts. AFC Berg Reserves and Overton United B met the previous week in another cup match when United ran off 10-2 winners, but this week they met again and this time it was Berg who ended up winning and into the next round. It was a completely different back four in the Berg line up and after drawing 2-2 after 90 minutes, they won through by beating United 5-4 on penalties. It was Overton who led after seven minutes when Kevin Beaumont scored direct from a corner kick. Jason McDine equalized to make it 1-1 at the break, but in the 54th Terry Blackburn took a pass from Bailey Roffey to put Overton back in front in the 54th minute and this looked enough to win the game until a minute from time. It was then a shot from Joe Lester deflected onto the net off Paul Roffey and this meant a shootout. Berg netted all five of theirs through Mark Bone, Dan Trussler, McDine, James Brown and McKenzie Collins, while Overton were successful apart from the spot kick from Ross Harwood, saved by keeper Doug Gray.

North Warnborough have also made it through to round two after winning their 5-3 shootout against Aldershot League opponents Headley United A. Benita Oprea gave them the lead with 40-yard shot and Liam Self-made 2-0, but Headley pulled a goal back before half time. Khalil Bentaleb with a 30-yard free kick then put Borough 3-1 up and he added another with a shot in off the bar. The midfield lost the plot after this and by the 90 minutes they were hanging on for a 4-4 draw. Then came the shootout when Tom Bulley, Ryan Nuttall, Bailey Craig, Tom Coglan were all successful from the spot and finally Oprea, netted the fifth and saw them through.

Chineham played another Aldershot side Wye Valley Reserves and were beaten 5-4 on penalties after a 3-3 draw at the Everest School pitch. They took the lead after just one minute when Ben Cronin put away a cross from Paddy Callahan. At half time they were 2-1 down, but right-on half-time Cobi Judd took a pass from one of Chineham’s Brazilian players Thiago Barboza, to level and they then went 3-1 up when Callahan was at the far post to score from a Fin Thompson cross two minutes into the second half. Chineham were under a lot of pressure after this and conceded in the 70th and 75th which meant a penalty shootout. Barboza, Callahan, Tom Rogers and Tom Roworth all converted, but the penalty from Cobi Judd hit the upright.

Basingstoke Saturday League

Division One.

Twentyten surge to the top of Division One after an 11-0 win against Overton United A. The United Manager Gavin Alexander, who was in goal for the first 30 minute made six changes this week and by the time he made way for Brodie Good, his side were 3-0 down, goals from Ryan Lupton, Karl Hanks and Dan Hancock. By half time Lupton and Mikey Davies had increased the lead to 5-0. Charlie Manning, Hancock and Jack Clarke added further goals before Lupton netted again for his hat trick. Jack Tanner put them into double figures before an own goal from a back pass completed the rout.

The Tadley Calleva A manager Bradley Nash was particularly pleased with their latest victory, a 2-0 win over Herriard Sports away, as he had seven youngsters under 20 in the starting line-up. In the 41st minute they went in front when Charlie Neville sent over a cross and Simon Penfold found the bottom left hand corner with his low shot. Herriard certainly had more chances and hit the woodwork on four occasions through Matt Goodman, Sam Weber and Liam Grainger, who also had a goal disallowed for offside Herriard missed s great chance to level when Simon Connor was right through and shot straight at keeper Greg Harper and then in the 89th minute came the second for Tadley. It was sixteen years old Tom Haggith, who impressed throughout and had two chances for Tadley, before he was played through by Shaun Newton in the 89th minute and made no mistake this time, to seal the points.

Division Two

Had Oakridge managed to hang onto their 2-1 lead for another minute they would have been top of the Division Two table now, however a last-minute goal from Jordon Wainwright meant they shared the points in a 2-2 draw with Twentyten Reserves. After a goal less first half, Twentyten took the lead when Carl Pearson took a pass from Jack Hulbert to put his team ahead. Sam Mosdell set up Aaron Johns for the equaliser and a good run by Nathan Bedford and cut back from him handed Johns his second. Twins Max and Sam Trodd both missed a good opportunity to put them 3-1 ahead, but it was Twentyten who would steal a point in the 89th minute when a cross from Austen Feighery caused problems at the far post and Wainwright was there to chest into the net.

It is Basingstoke Athletic who tops the table after a 5-3 away win against AFC Aldermaston A. Matt King gave them the lead after 25 minutes and it soon became 2-0 when Greg Adams netted. Jordon Clear made it 2-1, but the two-goal advantage was restored when Luke Gore found Keyton Hylton. Just before the break Clear scored his second for the home side, but they conceded again early in the second half when Lee O’Grady was brought down in the box and Hylton converted for a 4-2 lead. Aldermaston came again with a goal from Peter Raines, but a low shot 18 yards out from Paul Taylor ensured the points for Athletic.
