The 2nd Round of the Lincs FA County Sunday Cup saw 8 teams from GDSFL play their ties on Sunday.
With 8 teams in the 2nd Round of the Lincolnshire County FA Sunday Cup hopes were high that a good number would progress to the next Round. In the event only Friendship FC and Hilltop Raptors were winners on the day. Friendship FC were drawn away to Grimsby top Division team Cromwell FC and after a very close game they once again found a way to win a game they could so easily have lost, the 3 goals to 2 victory probably tells its own story. Hilltop Raptors who are having a very good season thus far also had to travel to Caistor Tennyson and a real cup tie performance saw them win by 4 goals to 2 and a very deserved place in Round 3, both Friendship FC and Hilltop Raptors will now hope for a favourable draw in Round 3. Walkeringham FC were never likely to be good enough to defeat a very impressive Beckwood Beauty from the Scunthorpe Sunday League, despite creating one or two chances in the game Walkeringham never seriously threatened last seasons Semi Finalists and went down to a 7 goals to nil loss. Rose & Crown perhaps somewhat surprisingly lost after extra time to Blyborough United by 3 goals to 1 in a game Rose & Crown will surely feel they could have won goal scoring chances have to be taken. Likewise Horse & Jockey who also went down after extra time by 3 goals to 1 to Athletico FC, they will surely see this as a chance missed and with a calmer approach they would surely have won. Kngs Arms Haxey FC who are on something of a difficult run at present battled hard away to Schooners FC but lost narrowly by 2 goals to 1 again a tie that was there to be won. Westwoodside FC were away to Scunthorpe League Redbourn AFC and although they never gave up trying a lack of finishing power proved to be decisive Redbourn winning by 3 goals to nil. Cross Keys FC travellen to Cleethorpes to play Old Clee Sewell who are a very decnt Grimsby Division 1 team and a below par Cross Keys never really troubled their host who won by 9 goals to nil.
In the GDSFL just two games in Division 2 saw Retford neighbours AFC Moorgate take on Retford Sunday and the tightest of games went right down to the wire before Moorgate got their first points of the season after a 2 goals to 1 victory that was as close as the score would suggest. The Gringley derby saw Gringley FC somewhat outplay Blue Bell Rangers and by taking their chances the 4 goals to nil scoreline in no way flattered them.
In Division 3 Babworth Rovers Blue maintained their 100% start to the season with a comprehensive 5 goals to nil win against a Canutes FC team that battled hard but were beaten by the young and impressive Babworth Rovers Blue. On a good day for the Club Babworth Rovers Yellow also showed great battling qualities to win by 3 goals to 2 at Owston Ferry SC a result that was always to close to call. Ship Inn Lions and Bridon AFC Reserves had a very entertaining game that saw 6 goals and several more chances that both teams created before in the end it was Bridon AFC Reserves who claimed all 3 points after a 4 goals to 2 win. A very youthful Kings Arms Haxey Reserves defeated a determined Otter FC by 6 goals to 2 both teams deserving of credit for their approach to the game.
