The lead changes hands
Chesham United completed the double over Havant & Waterlooville with a fiercely contested game at Westleigh Park.
Havant and Waterlooville had the best of the opening exchanges, camped in Chesham's half and putting on lots of pressure. Only good saves from the Chesham keeper and some last ditch tackles kept the score at 0-0.
Against the run of play, Chesham scored first on 15 minutes. One of their only attacks ended in a foul, and from the resulting free kick they went 1 up. Midfielder Shantell Wooodward placed the free kick over the keepers head and dropped it in under the crossbar to give Chesham a surprising lead.
H&W fought back for the remainder of the half, Charley Wilson as usual worked tirelessly, running off the ball and pulling Chesh defenders all over the wide Westleigh pitch. They equalised on 30 minutes to put the game all level at half time.
The second half was much the same - H&W pressed hard and made several chances to score but Chesham always looked dangerous on the counter. One of those counters paid off on 60 minutes when they broke quickly and with the keeper out of position, H&W's number 4 handled the ball which was goalbound. Referee Tony Dodds red carded the H&W player and awarded the penalty which Woodward coolly converted to give the visitors the lead.
With one (wo)man extra, Chesham pushed on and were unlucky not to increase their lead, Bowers and Campbell were both in with chances on the H&W goal but couldn't get the 3rd goal that would put them out of sight.
The number of players was evened up with 20 mins left to play when Chesham's Sian Williams was also sent off after a crunching tackle.
H&W couldn't capitilise on their chances, and the game finished 1-2 to leave Chesham at the top of the table with Yeovil the only team who look capable of reeling them in.
