In the 2008 final of the Mike King Trophy, Selsdon Baptist Church regained the trophy they previously won in 2005 by beating opponents All Saints Peckham by 2-0. Click here for a match report and photo of the winning team with the trophy.

Plenty of rain in the preceeding week and warm sunshine on the day provided virtually perfect conditions for the 13th final of the Mike King Trophy. Played, as is usual, at Stanhope Grove, Beckenham, the match features Selsdon Baptist Church, who had reached this stage twice before, and All Saints Peckham, who haven't so much reached the League's Division 1 in their much briefer history.

Selsdon applied the early pressure and were rewarded after 10 minutes when Dave White curled a direct free-kick from just outside the box beyond the despairing dive of All Saints' keeper Graham Hand. Chances for either team were relatively few and far between, although after 35 minutes Will Hague kept Saints in the game with a last ditch goal-line clearance. Saints best chance fell to skipper David Abell at the end of the half, but in the last minute of time added on by referee Brian Marriott for an injury sustained by Selsdon keeper Dave Simmonds in making a double save, Dave White went past a couple of defenders and slotted home from close range to make it 2-0 to Selsdon at half time.

All Saints had much more of the play in the second half, but the Selsdon defence managed to stifle the normally free-scoring Saints attack without too many alarms and 2-0 turned out to be the final score.

Congratulations to both teams for providing an excellent game, played in excellent spirit ,and to Will Hague, who was selected as Man of the Match for his inspirational performance at the heart of the All Saints defence. However the final word must go to Selsdon's Team Manager Ali Richards who is now reportedly hanging up his boots and for whom a cup final victory is a fitting reward at the end of his long playing career with Selsdon Baptist.
