Round Up 10 September 2011
CARLSBERG WEST CHESHIRE A.F.L.
MATCH ROUND UP W/E 10.9.2011
Most comprehensive Division 1 winners of the weekend were Mossley Hill Athletic who hit 4 without reply against Marine Reserves. Karl Garnell led the way with a double and he was backed up by strikes from Danny Fernehough and Sean Kearney in a success that lifts Athletic into 5th place. Near neighbours Marshalls also celebrated a notable triumph when goals from Joe Connelly, Matty Lowe and Phil Davies earned them an odd goal in 5 victories over defending champions West Kirby who netted through Adam Hellon. Ashville remain in pole position following their 3-1 defeat of visiting Christleton. Craig Griffiths and Peter Navarro eased the hosts into a 2-0 lead and although Steve Finlay reduced the arrears before the break a 2nd half Steve Connor effort ensured maximum reward for the league leaders. Having shared 4 goals with Christleton [James Hussey, James Cullen] in midweek, Ellesmere Port [Mark Jones, Ryan Nicoll] moved into 2nd spot thanks to a 2-1 over Cammell Laird Reserves on Saturday. James Cross and Mark Price were the Port marksmen as Aaron Baird replied for bottom of the table Lairds. Maghull [Andy Edgar, Brad Smart] stayed in the title hunt after edging out Chester Nomads [Kieran Smith] while Newton lie 4th after Dave Thompson, Joe Costello and Anthony Felton all found the net against a Vauxhall Motors Reserves outfit unable to muster a reply. A double from Dayo Akinlabi earned his Willaston side a 2-0 success over Southport Trinity that lifts them from the foot of the table and another 2 goal man was Aiden Shannon but he and his Blacon team mates had to settle for a point as local rivals Upton AA posted through Andy Lloyd and a Simon Andrews penalty.
Hale hold a 4 point lead in Division 2 after Sean Wright netted the games only goal in a tight affair at Prescott Cables Reserves while a Lewis Buckley treble inspired 2nd placed Runcorn Linnets Reserves when they defeated Marshalls Reserves 4-0. Peter Wright was on target as Ashville Reserves triumphed at Bronze Social [Sam Herbert] in midweek and Manor Athletic [Sean Murphy, Chris Tolley, Kirk Mustoe] dented Beb Athletics [Graeme Carvell] hopes thanks to a 3-1 victory. Jake Corke, Danny McGill and Paul Linfield obliged for New Brighton as they overcame lowly Richmond Raith Rovers [Robert Madine].
Helsby and Mersey Royal are locked together at the top of Division 3 with Helsby grateful to regular marksman Wes Huizer who notched the games only goal in their contest with Mossley Hill Athletic Reserves while on Monday Royal had Ali Major and Mark Gray on the score sheet in the 2-0 win over struggling Neston Nomads. In a reduced league programme the remaining Division 3 fixture saw Merseyside Police [Dan Rowlands, John McAllister] share 4 goals with Christleton Reserves [Luke Foulkes, Steven Kamperman].
Adam Wilkinson and Thomas Jump were on the mark as Youth Division leaders Maghull overcame Allertons challenge with a 2-0 victory and Pat Stanton led the way with a hat trick as Finn Harps defeated Helsby 5-2.
Shock winners in the 1st round of the Wirral Amateur Cup were Mallaby [Pete Rutter] who put their league form to one side with a 2-1 defeat of Beb Athletic [Sean Heggarty] and there was a 7 goal thriller as holders West Kirby Reserves [Ryan Thompson, Keith Lewis, Lewis McNally, Danny Mooney] edged out Bronze Social [Lee Dermody, Anthony Anglesey, Owen Davies].
