Basingstoke & District League Match Reports from Sunday 30th September, By Tony Spencer.
Visitors Chineham played the first 20 minutes with 10 men on Sunday against Division 1 champions Republic of Chineham, soaking up pressure with few chances on either side of achieving a breakthrough. Republic's first goal was a long range effort that deflected in low past Chineham's stand-in goalkeeper Kev Ridyard before half time. In the second half Chineham started to find their rhythm and managed to relieve the pressure with neat passing triangles. However, eventually fatigue set in for Chineham and the defence was broken twice in the last 10 minutes, firstly by a diagonal cross over the top that was lifted over Ridyard and the other by Republic's winger cutting inside with flair to drill low into the net at the near post. Republic of Chineham's scorers were Ashley Elward, Finlay Hall and D'Andre Brown.
Jamie Galpin scored for Soldiers Return in the first 2 minutes, his chance laid on by Stuart Cubbage. Richard Kalwarczyk equalised for Bramley United from a corner, before Ben Squibb crossed for Colin Bell to head the visitors into a 1-2 half-time lead. Tim Barnett's shot was wide, but a miskick from the goalie allowed Stuart Leddy to extend Bramley's lead, before Barnett's volley from a corner rounded off a 1-4 win for the league leaders.
Brookvale United took only twelve players away to Hampshire Irons, using their only substitute to replace goalkeeper Chris Weight after only 15 minutes. United were already 1-0 down as a skidding shot from the edge of the area slipped through Weight’s fingers. 'Vale equalised just before the break as striker Sam Trodd’s curling effort from just outside the area found the bottom corner, the hitman’s first goal for the club. Irons netted an early second half goal and added a well taken third for Irons to win the match 3-1.
After 10 minutes North Warnborough were 0-1 down to Eastrop Eagles, Tom Green finished coolly after being expertly played in by Les Bush. Sullivan Fofane levelled for Boro 1-1 on 35 minutes. There were plenty of chances from both sides but in the second half Boro managed to take theirs, with Ryan Thorpe scoring his hat-trick after 55, 70 and 80 minutes to come from behind as 4-1 victors.
An entertaining game between Division 2 high rollers Camrose Social and New Park Rangers remained goalless at the interval. On 65 minutes Rangers' Joe Hodge broke the deadlock from a Dylan Bardell through ball, although Camrose shared the points with a Mike Davis strike on 80 minutes, despite Rangers hitting the bar late on.
Chineham Cavaliers were beaten at home by AFC Laarsens 1-2.
Overton United were missing key players through injury, so started the match against Shallow End slowly and might have fallen a goal down after 50 seconds if It wasn't for keeper Szymon Duszyński making a smart save. Overton had chances to take the lead before half time through Gavin Alexander but the game remained goalless at the break. Overton dominated the second half, with Mikey Burry hitting the bar from 40 yards out before the game was settled in the 83rd minute, when Overton won a penalty and Richie Budd slotted home to earn the points.
Kempshott won an 8-1 thriller at home to South Ham Saints, with Aaron Chapman's mazy run after a cracking through ball from Cody Burns opening the floodgates. Matt Osbourne rapped in the second before three goals in a row from prolific striker Jack Sedgwick for a 5-0 lead at half time. Osbourne made it 6-0 with his second, before the Kempshott keeper Charlie James conceded a penalty. Andrew Carr netted a consolation for South Ham Saints, 6-1.
