CARLSBERG WEST CHESHIRE LEAGUE

Midweek saw three fixtures take place, two in Division One and one in Division Two. Cammell Laird Reserves edged past troubled Southport Trinity by two goals to one at Kirklands, John Paul Wheadon and Adam Lea scored for the home side with Trinity’s reply coming via Tommy Hughes. Chester Nomads have clearly found their muse again and followed up their first win of the season with a second at much fancied Vauxhall Motors Reserves. The only goal of the game came the way of Nomad’s Jack Delgardo. Another one-nil win was recorded in the night’s only Division Two game with Ashville Reserves claiming the spoils over Maghull Reserves thanks to a Kyle Kelly penalty.

Saturday saw just two Division One games played due to conference dates for cup competitions. Ashville recorded a fine win at Gayton Park coming from 2-1 down at the home of reigning champions, Heswall. Ashville scored four goals to claim all three points thanks to goals from Kevin Fitzsimons (2), Paul Howell and Carl Murphy. Heswall replied with goals from Danny Cowie and Richie Foulkes. South Liverpool turned up the pressure on leaders, Maghull by winning at Mossley Hill Athletic by two goals to three. A brace from South’s Cameron Dalton and a third by Carl Gargan ensured the points went with the visitors, despite scores by Athletic’s Yusuf Malik and Dave Smiley.

In Division Two, and amazing ten-goal thriller took place between Prescot Cables Reserves and Heswall Reserves, with both teams sharing the points following a five-all draw. Cables Sam Gifford claimed a hat trick with Ryan Pickles and Charlie Wilson making it five. Heswall’s five came from Chris Kennedy (2), Ahmed Ally, Andy Edge and Jay Thompson. Mossley Hill Athletic Reserves claimed a convincing win at Mersey Royal, running out one-five winners. A Phil Duncan hat trick and a brace from Dave Byrne ensured the points for the visitors with Mersey Royal gaining scant consolation through a single strike from Alex Major. A closely fought game at Helsby saw the home side win by the odd goal in five over visitors Gateacre Village. Despite Gateacre’s Joe Connolly scoring two goals, Helsby won through strikes from Gary Jones, Tommy Hodnet and Matty Johnson. Redgate Rovers enjoyed a three-one home win over West Kirby Reserves thanks to Craig Blackwell, Craig Stirling and Dave Critchley. A Shaun Skillen penalty was West Kirby’s only reply. Richmond Raith Rovers Mags won two-nil at home to Marshalls. Danny Powell and Phil Thompson were the goal heroes for Richmond.

The Third Division brought a number of significant away wins. Pride of place goes to Rainhill Town who scored six without reply at Upton AA Reserves. Rainhill’s goals coming from Danny Leather [2], David Monteith, Ashley Elliott, Matty Dooling and Mark Ellis. Fellow boys, Ford Motors, scored four goals without reply when they visited Merseyside Police. Two goals from Liam Summer together with goals from Alex McCracken and Kyler Jeffories sent the visitors back home with all three points. Bootle Reserves recorded a fine 2-4 win at Marshalls Reserves thanks to John Cheetham (2), Kev Goulder and Danny Loughlin. Marshalls replied via Matt Powell and Ryan Henry. Hale Reserves visited front-runners St Helen’s Town Reserves and claimed an impressive one-three win, to maintain their unbeaten run. Dan Murphy, Sam Sullivan and Anthony Terry did the damage for Hale. St Helen’s sole reply came late on from William Tierney. Chester Nomads Reserves (Robert Kennerley, Callum Johnson, Mike Jeffs, own goal) bucked the away win trend of the day by securing a four-one home win over Belfry (Danny Hurt).

The Youth Division is proving to be a fine competition this season. Newton recorded a four-one home win over Maghull. Kieron Dartnell, Tom Morgan (2) and Callum Salt made it a happy day for Newton with Maghull only scoring through a Newton own goal. Bootle got back to winning ways with a fine three goal away win at South Liverpool. Steve Clarke, James Ludgate and Domonic McGovern claimed the scores for Bootle. Vauxhall Motors continued with their fine season edging past Widnes Vikings by one goal to nil thanks to Craig Ellis. Finally, West Kirby (Jack Ledsham (2), Dan McLoughlin) came from behind in the second half to beat Mallaby (Elliot Toner, Anthony Burns) three-two.
