Ellesmere Port Town's Joe Davis (2) and Todd Reid and that win enabled the Port to escape bottom spot and move up to twelfth place in the table.
In what is shaping up to be a four way race for the Go2 Day West Cheshire League's Division One title, Mossley Hill Ath. bolstered their challenge to win the championship for the first time, after they posted an 11-0 result over Capenhurst Villa. A four goal contribution from Connor Anderson was supplemented by doubles from Owen Cassidy and Nathan Peet with further efforts from Liam Bott, Caleb Jones and Callum Smith completing the scoreline, as second placed Mossley remained five points adrift of current pacesetters, Maghull, with three games in hand, WRITES ERNIE MCDONALD.
A depleted fixture programme failed to deter Maghull from recording their fourteenth win of the season, when efforts from Darren Brannigan (2) Harrison Worden and Jacob Till anchored the leaders to a 4-0 win at Litherland Remyca Res., while third placed FC Bootle stayed firmly in contention, thanks to a 4-0 decision over Chester Nomads, confirmed by efforts from Dylan Westerside(2), Jacob Jones and Joe Tynan. Fourth placed title aspirants, Newton, returned to winning ways, thanks to a 2-1 win over Heswall, which saw goals from Ross McDowell and Tom Ford. Despite a double from ace marksman, Lee Turkington, Helsby capitulated 3-2 to replies from Ellesmere Port Town's Joe Davis (2) and Todd Reid and that win enabled the Port to escape bottom spot and move up to twelfth place in the table. The new basement spot occupiers are now Vauxhall Motors Res., who have just one win to their credit this season, but earned a share of the spoils, following a 2-2 stalemate with Aintree Villa.
Division Two leaders, South Liverpool Res. were indebted to a Ben Burns effort and a Harvey Billington penalty which secured a 2-1 result over Higher Bebington Kelma and saw the leaders increase their advantage to five points. Andy Noonan bagged the visitors' consolation. Neston Nomads' purple patch continued, thanks to a 6-1 victory over Huyton Rovers, inspired by an Ollie Dutton hat trick. Further efforts from Declan Roberts, Nathan Penny and an own goal cemented the win with Bobby Pennington in reply for Rovers. Elsewhere, a smart double from Asher Duncan earned Mossley Hill Ath. U23's maximum returns following a 2-0 success at Marshalls Res.
Saturday's Division Three action proved profitable for Groves Ath. who celebrated a 6-3 win at Frodsham Park JFC with Liam Cunningham and Ben Roberts both scoring hat tricks. Honours were shared after an effort from Helsby Res.' Tom Brady was negated by a reply from Rainhill Town Res.' Kyle Ferguson.
Maghull B regained top spot in the Youth Division on goal difference from Athletico Blues, courtesy of Saturday's 5-1 result at Vauxhall Motors. Jack Jenkinson(2) Adam Howes, Adam Ralph and Dan Dearing netted for the winners.
