Robertsons Manager Steve Dean was particularly pleased with a good all round team performance, as Super Sub Stephenson Sinks Simonside
After last weeks first defeat of the season Robertson Scaffolding bounced back in style with a 4-0 win against Simonside SC.
With so many injuries to key players like Christie Elliott, Darryll Donnelly and Jonny Mathews, the suspension of Aaron Todd, and some cry offs due to some partying over the weekend the result was all the more creditable.
Micky Urwin who has re-signed was expecting to play outfield but was called upon to play between the sticks due to Ryan Docherty being unavailable.
At the start of play there was only 11 players available thankfully 3 key players came back who were unavailable for the previous weeks defeat at the hands of Marsden Inn Rangers, Dan Smith, Dan Purvis and Ian Hudson all three having particularly good games. Craig Lowther too who has mainly just been used as a substitute in all the games this season had a significant contribution to the game in scoring one and having a hand in a couple of the goals, though he seemed to tire a bit in the second half, which can only be expected with his lack of match practice and all the work he was asked to do. Paul Woods who has not figured much in the team so far this season was also called upon to play and he too had a steady game in defence alongside Wayne Henry, David Mullen and Dan Smith. Joe Gray was asked to put off his imminent departure to be a substitute.
The most pleasing aspect of the performance was that the players got on with their game and there was none of the wanting to get involved in petty squabbles which was a major aspect in their downfall in last weeks defeat.
The first two goals were scored by two players not renowned for getting on the score sheet Dan Purvis and Craig Lowther but they were both quality finishes.
Early in the second half the manager introduced regular centre forward Stevie Stephenson who was unavailable at the start of play. Stephenson replacing Paul Woods with Dan Purvis switching to fullback from the wing and Bri Johnson moving out to the left flank and Stevie Stephenson partnering Dave Smith upfront. The introduction of Super Sub Stephenson proved fruitful with him notching two goals.
Dave Smith who had a really good game made way for the last 15 minutes or so to let Joe Gray have a final swansong for Robertsons. Joe Gray is hoping to move on to try and get some regular football in what could well be his final season in the game, Gray realising with such a young squad brimming with talent his chances of getting games were going to be extremely limited.
The Chrissy Sinclair and Ian Hudson midfield pairing had significant contributions; in fact it was a really good all round team performance which every player could look on as being proud of their performances.
So a 4-0 victory against an established team, means that Robertson Scaffolding remain undefeated in the league.
Next weeks fixture in the Sandford Goudie cup against Premier League outfit Whiteleas could well show how far Robertsons have developed as a team.
