Easter Sunday Preview

For most Easter Sunday will involve opening Easter Eggs and eating more chocolate than necessary, for others it’s going to be a day of reckoning for fans of Everton and Arsenal in the race for 4th in the Premier League but for the majority of Chesterfield, it’s all about the Sunday League as the end of the season approaches and the league tables finally take shape. Hasland are top of division 1 by one point with two games in hand, can anybody stop them from clinching the title once again, bottom club Brampton will certainly find it tough to do on Sunday especially with Lee Clay being in sensational form with 30 goals already this season. Game of the day is certainly in Renishaw as the welfare welcomes FC Britannia and by the end of the day these clubs could swap places in the league.

Only two games are scheduled in division 2 and it will be New Whitt hoping to gain ground on leaders Tibshelf who are without a game. Silver Birches will also be looking at putting some distance between them and bottom club Wingerworth Barley Mow but opposition Ashover Vale will certainly be a stern test.

West Killamarsh are all but Champions of Division 3 as they sit comfortably 9 points in front of second placed AFC Bolsover with just 2 games left. At the other end of the table, the other side from Killamarsh; Steelmelters Arms have a lowly 5 points but with a plethora of games in hand so they will be looking to get something away at Hopflower.

The race for top spot in Division 4 is certainly the most intriguing as any one of 3 teams can win it just like the Premier League. AFC North Wingfield sit top, one point in front but with only one game left. Dronfield Miners will go top if they beat Chesterfield Arms on Sunday. However the two teams to watch are Steelmelters and Woodthorpe who have games in hand over the teams above them and if either team win all their remaining games then they will be champions and as they both still need to play each other in May then that will certainly determine the champions, look out for this game as it is certainly billed as perhaps the game of the season in 4. Bottom of the table is also tight as both Chesterfield Arms and Spartans are on 12 points.

Clowne Wanderers are the runaway leaders of 5 and it will take a miracle for them to slip up and throw the league away considering they are unbeaten and have a striker in sensational form. Matty Robson has 30 goals already this season and will be looking to add to this before the end of the season. Hasland Community could make ground up on Clowne as they welcome Gate Inn. The game to look out for is at the bottom as Brimington United travel to Holmehall who sit a point above them. Brimington have had a resurgence recently and know that two wins in their last two games will see them climb to 8th in the table and put distance between them and bottom club Spital who are now guaranteed to finish with the wooden spoon.

Hady Villa sit comfortably at the top of 6 with 41 points but don’t play Sunday. Their closest rivals are Crown Killamarsh who have 28 point and 2 games in hand but they travel to 3rd placed Barlow Kingston Rovers who also have 28 points so this game is huge for both teams.

It’s all about Oxcroft United and Duckmanton Community in division 7. Ducky sit top but slipped up at Brampton Rovers Reserves Thursday night going down 4-3. Great news for Oxcroft who have two games in hand on Ducky and are 6 points behind. One more win for Oxcroft will guarantee 2nd spot and two wins for Oxcroft will see them draw level on points with Ducky but they have a weaker goal difference so a visit to bottom club Spartans 2nd will be a welcome fixture and they will be hoping top scorer Grayson will continue his rich vein of form. The title in this division will certainly change hands during last few games and it could really all hinge on next Sunday’s game where Oxcroft welcome Ducky, definitely one to watch
