Ten goal thriller at Halebank!!
Premier Division.
Leaders Whaley Bridge were in Cup action this weekend so it gave the chasing pack an opportunity to pull closer.
Wythenshawe thrashed local rivals Styal at Ericstan Park by five goals to nil. The home side inched closer to top spot through two individual braces from Rhodes and Hargreaves, plus a goal from King.
Knutsford stay move into third as they defeated Greenalls Padgate St Oswalds at home. Their 2-1 victory means that they go into Christmas just six points off the top and just a win away from drawing level with Wythenshawe in second. Knutsford’s goals came via Crellin-Myers and Rezayan.
The only other game in the Premier Division saw Malpas defeat Rylands in Warrington. The visitors move level on points with their opponents following the result but it’s Rylands with the upper hand as they have a stronger goal difference and three games in hand.
League One.
FC St Helens beat Golborne Sports in Warrington as they looked to move closer to the league leaders, Warrington Town Reserves. A MOTM performance from Micky Houghton and goals from Morgan Dearden and Paul Sweeney meant the visitors took home all three points.
By far, the standout game across all divisions took place at Halebank. The home side took on an in-form Middlewich side coming off the back of an impressive 6-1 victory over Cheadle Town Reserves. This week’s game saw the sides draw 5-5, but it doesn’t help either team move out of the lower half of the table.
Warrington Town Reserves move even further clear at the top as the beat Lostock Gralam 3-4 at the Park Stadium. The visitors are now at three wins worth of points clear of second-placed Pilkington.
Pilkington themselves moved up to second this week, ahead of Billinge who lost 2-1 away to AFC Macclesfield at Stockport Sports Village, with a 3-2 victory over Mersey Valley that saw a much more entertaining second half than first.
Daten dominated in their game against Grappenhall Sports. The Atoms move into eleventh after their 0-4 victory. They have a number of games over Christmas, meaning they can swiftly move up the table should they pick up some points.
Tarporley Victoria remain second bottom with their 1-2 loss against West Didsbury and Chorlton Reserves. The Manchester locals sit in fifth, 12 points off the top.
League Two.
It was a day to forget for Barnton Reserves as they lost at home to their NWCFL rivals, Maine Road Reserves. The visitors won 0-7 in dominant fashion. The three NWCFL reserve sides sit at the bottom of League Two, with the third (Sandbach Reserves) losing 5-3 to Broadheath Central. Broadheath came away with all three points and move up to fifth, within a win of the leaders.
Moore United were disappointing in the second half of their fixture with Ford Motors. The visitors scored four goals in the second half to take the spoils by five goals to one. Motors move themselves up to fourth, just three points off Deva Christleton and Windle Labour at the top.
The final result of the week saw Orford and Cuddington draw 1-1. This result keeps them both solidly stuck in midtable.
