Cammell Laird 1907 Res. look set for promotion at the first time of asking from the Division Three.
With a healthy eight point lead and with a game in hand bonus, Cammell Laird 1907 Res. look set for promotion at the first time of asking from the Go2 Day West Cheshire League's Division Three. Saturday saw the Shipbuilders post their seventeenth win of the season, highlighted by a five goal return from Adam Larway as Lairds romped home 8-0 at Helsby Res. Kieran Hughes struck twice and a further effort from Luke Burns confirmed the result, WRITES ERNIE MCDONALD. Nearest rivals, FC Kirkby, also had their shooting boots on and savoured a 6-2 victory over Frodsham Park JFC courtesy of goals from Adam Bowe, Josh Downes, Josh O'Connor, Mike McHugh, Craig Johnson and Danny Downes.
In Division Two, West Kirby may have missed out on the silverware this season, but they're having their say in deciding the outcome of this season's title race. The previous week the Mariners deprived strongly fancied South Liverpool Res. of two points and on Saturday third placed visitors, Runcorn Sports fell victim at Marine Park, when an early goal from Ben Hawitt settled a competitive issue. Elsewhere, honours were shared after efforts from Maghull Res.' Charlie Taylor (2) and Callum Walker were negated by replies from South Sefton Borough's Baf Dabi (2) and Jack Hughes.
In Division One, it was business as usual for pacesetters Mossley Hill Ath., who safeguarded their seven point advantage at the top, Dom Murphy, Nathan Peet and Cai Jones obliging in a 3-1 success at Rainhill Town, who had Chris Sheehan in reply. Second placed Maghull maintained interest, after a Darren Brannigan double was supplemented by a further effort from Harrison Worden and an own goal in Saturday's 4-2 eclipse of Marshalls who hit back via Jude Mante and Jack Ward. Despite a goal from Steve Rowlands, Capenhurst Villa's relegation fears worsened after they went down 3-1 at home to bottom placed local rivals, Heswall, who managed to cling on to the shirt tails of their fellow strugglers, thanks to goals from Liam Grealis, Matty Morris and Tom Davies. Anthony Griffith was on target for Litherland Remyca Res. but it was visitors, Aintree Villa who profited, Dylan Lawless and Liam Van Gelder sparking a 2-1 triumph.
Understandably, the week's adverse weather conditions took their toll on the day's fixture programme and the only other game which survived, was in the Development Trophy first round, and it was celebration time for Youth Division side, Maghull B, who took the scalp of Division Three counterparts, Ellesmere Port U23's. Four goal Nathan Moffitt was joined on the scoresheet by Adam Ralph (2) and Will Hoey in a 7-2 romp, Kinde Mallory bagged both replies for the hosts.
