The season kicks off, these are the reports from Division 1 & 2
It was back to action for all the Clubs in the Dore Metals Sheppey Sunday League as the 2012-2013 season kicked off on Sunday. Despite other Leagues in the region losing teams the Dore Metals Sheppey Sunday League has improved on what they finished with last season so everyone was raring to go.
Dore Metal Services Division One
The Champions of last season Park Regis (Kemsley) got off to an edgy start but still walked away with the points. In an entertaining game both Kemsley and the Goat had their chances but as the game was heading towards a draw Dan Hudson popped up to bag the points for Park Regis. Marcus Lind Manager of the Goat said It was a very tight game we had chances but did not take them but Kemsley took theirs when a draw looked to have been fair result but thats not taking the win away from Kemsley
Last seasons Runners up Red Lion (Sheppey) got off to a flying start. In a match where they always looked comfortable and at times were playing some very good football they cruised to a 4-2 win over the new look IOSA. Goals from Brett Nevin, Bradley King, Kane Illsley and Jon Fisch saw the Reds take the points with Dan Calder and Alex Kingsnorth replying for the IOSA.
AFC Red Lion set their stall out with a good 7-3 win against the 1st Division new boys Range Rovers. A four star performance from Les Lewis did the damage for AFC netting four, with Frankie Swaby grabbing a double strike and Rob Reardon completing the scoring. Range Rovers replied with goals from Paul Constable, Jamie Bonner and an own goal. The only blight on this game for AFC was the sending off of Matt Cunningham.
Mr India Halfway Division Two
The match of this division was a nine goal thriller between Bapchild v Red Lion Utd. Both sides new to the League although the Red Lion side was the Red Lion C team from the previous season with a new look side, really showed what the League is about for entertaining football. The game was a close fought encounter with a final score line of 5-4 to Bapchild although the Red Lion fell behind on several occasions they never gave up and the winning goal came in the last minute of the game. On target for Bapchild was Steve Doyle (2), Dean Melloy, Anthony Unsworth, and James Kingsnorth with Gari Bleir (2), Paul Tyler, and Brendan Lillis replied for Red Lion United.
Eastern Athletic playing on their new pitch at Warden Bay got off to a poor start going down 2-0 to the Aviator. On a very tight pitch that makes flowing football very difficult it was the Avi who adapted the best and with strikes by Bill Harris and Aaron Peters saw the Queenborough side get off the perfect start.
The battle of the Park Regis sides, A and Regis Park saw the Regis Park side take the bragging rights with a 3-1 win over their Club companions. Goals from the Miles boys Ryan and Declan helped secure the points with Matt Rossiter chipping in as well and a strike from Callum Wildish for the Park Regis A side completed the scoring.
New boys The Dutchman found life a bit tough in their first match of the season, although in early exchanges up to half time they were still in the game. A lack of fitness starting to show near the end the wiley old stagers of Sporting Sittingbourne secured a comfortable 6-1 win. Matt Hopkins netting his first hat trick of the season for Sporting, with a Graham Hayward double and a goal from Derrick Amartey completed the goals for the Sittingbourne side. Asa Gibbard claimed a consolation for the Dutchman.
