FIRST FROST CRISPENS UP PITCHES !
There was a chill in the air as the temperature dropped to remind us all that winter is well and truly upon us but it didn’t stop us getting a near full programme this week.
Collycroft Royal Oak opened up a 2 point lead at the top of NDSFL PREMIER LEAGUE as they picked up a 3-1 win over 2nd place Drayton. Daniel Cassidy hitting a brace and one from Daniel Monger with the goals. Simon Short replied for Drayton.
Frank Parker also won 3-1 over Griff and Coton Manor thanks to goals from Devon King, Sol McCann and Eke Goodluck. Oliver Covill hit the target for Griff.
There was a 12 goal thriller on display at Kirkby Road, Barwell as Barwell Cricketers beat Chetwynd Phoenix 8-4 in NDSFL LEAGUE ONE. Jordan Creed and Hugh Latham both hit braces with the others coming from Jake Armstrong, Connor Beasley, Matt Pratt and Harry Robinson for Cricketers. Chetwynd goals came from Dan Reidy, Sam Bircher, Sam Jones and Danny Leach.
The in form Danny Edmond scored a brace for Coniston Tavern as they overcame Desford-Caterpillar 3-0. The other coming by the way of an own goal.
Hat-tricks for Michael Sadler and Dom Bonner backed up by Ross Thacker’s single saw Royal Trent romp to a 7-0 win against Bedworth Liberal.
Athletico Duke leapfrogged Swan Dive to go top of MARK BLAIR FINANCE LEAGUE TWO after beating them 3-2. Will Groocock’s brace and a Jack Joyce single was enough to get the job done. Sushant Mayer and Ashley Gilder replied for Swan Dive.
Travs and Saunders Hall played out a 3-3 draw with Travs goals coming from Will Donovan, Lee Wallace and Freddie Wakelin. Liam Dean hit 2 and Ashley Clark’s single replied for Saunders.
Witherley United Res picked up a handy 3 points at home to Sunnyside, Ricky Luke topping up his tally with 2 backed up by singles from Dec Lloyd and Chris Dawe. Jagtar Mander scored the Sunnyside goal.
Ethan Baynham, Jamie Matthews, Harvey Westwood, Scott Williamson and Kane Borsberry goals were enough to see Bedworth Ex-Servicemen beat Ashby Road Sports 5-2. Nick Richardson and Matt Mangiante scored the Ashby Road goals.
Conny United managed to inflict a second defeat in as many weeks on Grendon thanks to goals from Dan Hendrie, Connor Wainwright and George Dewis in a 3-0 win for the Sapcote side.
Crows Nest Sports hit 5 without reply as they beat Acorn 5-0. Ben Stafford with a brace and singles from Mitch Mercer, Jamie Arnold and Daniel Guise with the goals.
Newdigate United have now beaten 2 of the top 4 teams in the last 2 weeks in NUNEATON TROPHIES LEAGUE THREE and sit top on goal difference. Kai Smith hit 2 and singles from Cole Burchell and James Lloyd with their goals in a 4-1 win over SS Bulls Head, Josh Atkinson’s 30 yard free kick turned out to be a consolation for SS Bulls Head.
Hinckley Wanderers kept things wide open in the race for promotion with a 3-2 win over Hearty Goodfellow Reserves. Jamie Roe, Ollie Smith and Brad Ball with the goals. Strikes from Jonni Biddle and Ben Greenfield ensured Hearty made it a very close game.
Rumour Mill (Barwell) sit 3rd. Despite going 1-0 down to Earl Shilton Town thanks to a very well worked Alex Purkiss goal, Riley Poxon’s equaliser and Danny Winterbotham’s second half brace ensured the Barwell side won the game 3-1.
Weddington Athletic currently look like the team to beat in League 3. Having not lost since opening day, they picked up another 3 points with a 4-1 win over Bedworth Liberal Reserves thanks to Adrian Talbot’s brace and singles from Gareth Orr and Ewan Davies. Liam Holmes replied for Bedworth Libs.
David Orton, Zak Bhara and Prince Banda hit the goals as Bedworth Bank beat Griff and Coton Manor Reserves 3-0 to keep them in touch with the top 4.
It was also a successful weekend for the NDSFL in external cup competitions as Bermuda Park, Witherley United and Poplar Athletic all saw themselves winning to progress to the next stage of their cup campaigns.
